TL;DR
A website for your sister is a single private page that opens from a link on WhatsApp — your messages, your photos, her name at the end. Lovely's For My Sister template does it as a small night-time story: a tin-can telephone between two windows, a washing line of your photos, a bow she ties by holding a button. It takes about five minutes and costs ₹79 one-time, with no coding and no account on her side. The build is easy. What to write is the hard part, and that is what most of this guide is about.
Why "just send a message" stops working with sisters
Sisters are the hardest people to write to sincerely, because the entire relationship runs on not being sincere. You have twenty years of roasting, stolen clothes and "tu ruk, mummy ko batati hoon" behind you. One earnest paragraph on WhatsApp reads like a hacked account. She replies "kya hua? sab theek hai?" and the moment is gone.
A page solves that in a sneaky way: it lets you be sincere inside a format. She is busy tugging a string and watching a bead travel across a street, so the line that lands — "and you stayed anyway." — arrives on its own, without you having to stand there while she reads it. It gives a sincere sentence somewhere to hide.
What the page actually does, scene by scene
Know the format before you write for it. The For My Sister template has four movements:
- The call. A night street, two lit windows — your photo in one, hers in the other — and a tin can hanging from each. The first screen says "psst. pick up, didi." She taps pick up the can, then tug the string, and each tug sends a glowing bead across the string. When it reaches her window, one of your messages appears. You choose how many: 3 to 7.
- The washing line. Morning arrives and the same string becomes a clothesline. Your photos hang on it, cut into the shapes of clothes — a hoodie, a dress, a tee, a single sock, a pair of shorts — each with a little handwritten tag like "the dress you 'borrowed'". She can tap any piece to make it flap. You choose 2 to 6 photos.
- The knot. "one last thing. hold to tie it." She presses and holds, the two loose ends travel in from the edges of the screen and tie into a bow. "tied. no scissors allowed."
- The finale. The whole street lights up window by window, the string loops into a heart, and her name appears in huge letters with your line and sign-off underneath. There's a "play it again" button, which — you will find out — she presses.
Every word, both window photos and every photo on the line are editable.
Writing the tin-can messages (the part that matters)
The default set is five lines, and they follow a shape worth copying even if you rewrite every word:
| # | Job of the line | Default example | | --- | --- | --- | | 1 | One shared memory, oddly specific | "remember splitting one maggi at 2am?" | | 2 | Something she got away with | "you told mom it was me. it was you." | | 3 | The version of you only she knows | "you've seen every embarrassing version of me." | | 4 | The turn — the sincere line | "and you stayed anyway." | | 5 | The claim | "blood or not — you're my sister. no returns." |
Notice the order. Two jokes, one admission, then the sincere line, then a joke-shaped promise to land it. If you lead with the emotional one, she has her guard up. If you bury it at line four, it walks straight past the guard.
Rules for your own five:
- One noun per line that nobody else could write. Not "food" — "the Sunday rajma". Not "that trip" — "the Manali bus where you threw up on my shoes".
- Keep each line under about twelve words. It appears one at a time in big handwriting; long lines lose the rhythm.
- Lowercase is a feature. The template is written in lowercase on purpose. It reads like a note passed across a room, not a speech.
- If you go to 6 or 7 messages, add them before the sincere line, not after. The defaults include two extras you can switch on: "you still owe me that black top." and "i'd still pick you. every time."
If you need raw material, the behan shayari in Hindi bank has 70 lines split by brother-to-sister and sister-to-sister, and any of them can be cut down into a single tug.
Picking photos for the washing line
This is the one section where people overthink. Four rules:
- Oldest first. The first garment should hold the worst-quality photo you own of the two of you — the blurry 2009 one from a cousin's wedding in Indore. History is the whole point.
- Match photo to garment. The captions are yours to rewrite, so pair them: the photo of her wearing your hoodie goes on the hoodie. The photo where she's mid-argument goes on "the dress you 'borrowed'".
- Faces centred. Photos are cut into clothing shapes, so put the face in the middle of the frame. A wide group shot will lose people at the sleeves.
- Four is the sweet spot. Six is fine if you have six genuinely good ones. Four strong photos beat six where two are filler.
The bow and the name
The last screen is short, and that is why it hits. You control three lines:
- Her name. Use what you actually call her. If that's "Didi", "Chutki", "Moti" or a nickname nobody outside your house understands, use that. A formal name on a sister page reads like a certificate.
- The line under it. The default is "by luck, by choice, by force." — which covers born sisters, chosen sisters and sisters-in-law in seven words.
- Your sign-off. Default: "— your favourite headache". Change it to whatever she saves your number as.
The steps, start to finish
- Open the For My Sister template and tap create. Sign-in is email or Google.
- Rewrite the messages. Tap any line on the live preview and type over it. Use the stepper to pick how many messages she'll see.
- Swap the photos. Both window photos, then the washing line. Use the second stepper to set how many photos hang.
- Change the finale. Her name, your line, your sign-off.
- Preview on your phone. That's where she'll open it.
- Pay ₹79 once through Razorpay — UPI, card or netbanking.
- Copy the link (or the QR code) and send it with nothing but "pick up 📞". Don't explain.

Coding it yourself is genuinely great if you enjoy building things. For a broader look at every gift format and what each one is bad at, the honest comparison of digital gifts for a sister or brother goes deeper.
Which sister is this for?
The template is written loosely enough to stretch, but each version wants one tweak:
- Didi (older sister): keep "pick up, didi." on the first screen. Make line three about something she did for you that your parents never found out about.
- Chhoti (younger sister): change "didi" to her name. Swap the sincere line for something protective — younger sisters rarely hear the soft version from an older sibling.
- Cousin or sister-in-law: keep "blood or not" exactly as it is. It's the line they'll screenshot.
- The best friend who's your sister: this is where the template is strongest. The sister from another mother quotes are written for exactly this person, and any of them works as a tin-can message.
What NOT to do
- Don't write a eulogy. Keep two jokes.
- Don't use only recent, filtered photos. No history, no page.
- Don't send it with a paragraph. The page is the paragraph.
When a WhatsApp message is too small
Some things don't fit in a chat bubble. You type them, delete them and end up sending a sticker. A page is just a message with room — five lines, four photos and her name in big letters at the end.
"Sister pages are the ones where people rewrite every default line," says Lovely's founder. "The jokes change, the photos change, but almost nobody touches 'and you stayed anyway'. That's the line they all seem to have been waiting to say."
If the occasion is her birthday, pair the page with something from the birthday wishes for sister bank as the text you send alongside the link. If you're the younger sibling writing to the one who half-raised you, didi ke liye message in Hindi has lines that slot straight into the tin-can screens. And if this is less about a day and more about saying thank you, the thank you message for sister bank is sorted by what you're actually thanking her for.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make a website for my sister without coding?
Start from a ready-made template instead of a blank site builder. On Lovely you pick the For My Sister template, tap any line on the preview to rewrite it, swap in your own photos and publish. It takes about five minutes, and you get a private link and a QR code straight away.
What should I write on a website for my sister?
Five short messages in a deliberate order: one shared memory, one thing she got away with, one thing only she has seen of you, one line about why you'd still pick her, and one joke to break the tension. Specific beats sweet — "the 2am maggi in the hostel kitchen" does more than "you're the best sister ever".
How much does a sister website cost in India?
The For My Sister template on Lovely is ₹79 one-time, paid by UPI, card or netbanking. Hosting is included, the link does not expire and there is no subscription. A custom domain is an optional ₹100 add-on.
Does my sister need an app or account to open it?
No. It is an ordinary web page that opens in any phone browser — from WhatsApp, Instagram or a plain SMS. There is nothing to install and nothing for her to sign up for.
Can I make it for a cousin or a friend I call my sister?
Yes, and the template is written for exactly that. One of the default lines is "blood or not — you're my sister. no returns.", so it reads naturally for a cousin, a sister-in-law or the best friend who became family years ago.
