How Lovely happened
Everyone has something they want to say — and it should look as beautiful as it feels. That is the story behind everything you see here. 💗
Honestly, I was just scrolling Instagram. Like everyone does at 1am. 🌙
And I kept seeing these reels. Someone made a cute little website for their girlfriend — her name on it, hearts, photos, a sweet message. And at the end of every single one, the same line: "DM us and we'll make one for you."
People were actually doing it. The comments were full. "DM sent." "Price?"
So I looked at how it worked. And it was completely manual. You message them. You send your photos. They build your page by hand. They send a preview. You ask for one small change. They redo it. Then you pay.
One person. One page. Every single time.

and then again. for the next person.
So I built one myself. Just one. Hardcoded, nothing fancy — a name, some animation, a message.
And it felt good. There is something about seeing your own name on a website that someone made just for you. It works. 💛
But then I sat with it. Because if I did the same thing, I'd have built nothing. I'd just be doing manual work forever. Ten orders in a day and I'm finished. A freelancer with extra steps.
I didn't want to be the bottleneck. I wanted it to run without me.

What if the person just fills in a form? 📝 Their name, their partner's name, the message, their photos.
And whatever they type goes straight into a ready-made design, replacing the default values — and out comes their own website, live on the internet, instantly.
That is it. That is the whole product in one sentence. The design is already built and waiting. The person only fills in the part that makes it theirs.
We named it Lovely Design. 💗

So I built the whole path. Login, dashboard, an editor, a save, a publish button. And the moment you hit publish, your page is live on a real link you can send to anybody.
First time I opened that link on my phone and saw the page sitting there on the internet — that is when it stopped being a timepass project. 🚀
And then the obvious thought hit me. If it can do this for one design, why is it doing only one? The engine does not care what the design looks like. It just fills in values.
So — a whole gallery. Birthday. Sorry. Miss you. Propose. Friendship. Anniversary. Same engine underneath, completely different pages coming out.
It stopped being one product. It became a platform.

I had something that worked, but it still felt like a project. So I wrapped it properly — a real landing page, a templates page you can browse, and I fixed every place people were getting lost.
Then payments. After a lot of research, Razorpay came out as the best fit for us. So I started with India — UPI, cards, net banking, wallets.
And then I opened it up to everyone else. That needed a separate approval, but once it came through, someone sitting anywhere in the world could make a page and pay for it in dollars. 🌍
Love is not an India-only thing. Neither is Lovely.

After about a month of building, we made an Instagram page and started posting reels.
And then we got our first sale. ₹29.
Honestly? That day I was happier than the day I got my first salary. I am not joking. Twenty-nine rupees. Somebody I do not know, who found us somewhere, liked it enough to pay.
And a while later, the same thing happened again — except this one came in dollars, from someone I have never met, in a country I have never been to. 💸
Not the amount. The proof.

And then something funny happened. The more I used Lovely myself — making pages for my own people, sending them, watching what happened next — the more ideas kept coming to me. 💭
A password on a page, so only one person can ever open it. Editing after you have already published, without the link changing. Your own subdomain. A QR code you can print and hide inside a gift. 🎁
None of it was on any plan. Every single one came from sending a page to somebody and thinking — oh, it should do this too.
The roadmap was just me using my own thing and getting annoyed.

The old way was: type in a box, click preview, come back, change something, preview again. That is not an editor. That is a form. 😐
So I built real-time editing. You see the actual website in front of you, you tap directly on the thing you want to change, and it changes right there. Then you publish. 👆
I called these v2 templates. Then instead of keeping both versions around, I converted every old template over to v2.
Same product. Completely different feeling.
THE EDITOR
tap to editthe preview is the real page — tap the bit you want to change
Every time I sent someone a page, I wanted to know the same thing. Did they open it? Did they read it all? Did they tap the button at the end? 👀
The old way could tell you — but only if somebody wired up every button by hand, template by template. Fine for one template. We have sixty. And a creator's upload is a file we have never even seen.
And what came back was a list. "Tapped yes." "Scrolled 50%." Words about the moment, instead of the moment.
So now nothing is wired to anything. The page just watches. Nothing is sent while they read — and when they close the tab, the whole visit leaves as one small packet.
Then you press play, and watch it happen on your own page. 🎬
You do not read what they did. You watch it happen.

The next idea came from those same Instagram guys whose reels started all of this. 🤝
What if they did not have to build every page by hand either? They make their design once, we put it on Lovely, their followers make their own pages and pay right there — and they keep their share of the profits from every sale.
We reached out to a bunch. One said yes. He gave us his design, we coded it into the platform by hand, and told him to go market it. Nobody bought it. Not one. 😬
We tried again. Five, six more creators. None of them went well either. But the bigger problem was not the sales — it was that we had automated the customer's side beautifully, and then built a completely manual process right next to it.
We fixed the queue, then quietly stood in a new one.
what onboarding one creator actually took
and repeat. for every single template.
So I asked the obvious question. Can this whole collab thing run without me standing in the middle of it? Not the pitching — the part after. A design file lands, and then it just waits for me to find a free evening. 🤔
So instead of coding templates one at a time, I built the thing that codes them. A creator uploads their design as one file. It gets read, every changeable spot inside it gets found and marked on its own, and that comes back out as a working editor — before the upload bar has even finished. ⚙️
From there it is a product. In their own dashboard they write the name and the description, set one price for India and one for everywhere else, add a thumbnail. We give it a look, switch it on, and it sits in the gallery next to ours — same editor, same checkout, same everything. 🤝
And their file never runs loose. It is somebody else's code on our platform, so it lives in a sealed box that cannot reach a login, a cookie or the database — and whatever a customer types gets merged in as text, never as code. 🔒
The last manual piece was the money itself. Every sale meant working out a share and transferring it by hand — and you cannot do automatic payouts from an individual Razorpay account, you need a proper business one. So we went and got the Udyam registration, and an Import Export Code for the international side. 📜
Then the Razorpay sole proprietorship account, moved everything across, and switched the payouts on. Now a creator uploads, sells, and gets paid without anybody pressing anything. 🏦
One evening of my work per template became one upload of theirs.
what it looks like from a creator's side
a creator joins
they sign up and get a dashboard of their own
they upload the design they already made
one file, exactly as it is — nothing to rebuild, nothing to learn
it turns into a template anyone can personalise
their design, with every name, photo and line ready to be swapped
they set their own price
one for India, one for everywhere else — plus the name and thumbnail
it goes live in the gallery
sitting next to ours, in front of everybody who comes looking
they earn on every sale
their share lands in their UPI on its own, once the money clears
And they can change the design tomorrow — every page somebody already made from it keeps looking exactly the way it was bought.
It took me a while to see it as one thing. Every piece got built because something broke or somebody asked — never as part of a plan. 🧩
But when you lay it all out end to end, it does run as one machine now. A designer drops in a file at the top, and money lands in their account at the bottom, and nobody touches anything in between.
Everything in this picture is live right now.

And the whole thing runs inside a sealed box. That file is somebody else's code on my platform, so it can never reach anyone's login, their cookies or the database — no matter what is inside it.
The product was working. The audience was very, very less. Because honestly, we had not focused on marketing at all.
So the first thing I did was fix my own blindness. An admin dashboard, Google Search Console, Google Analytics, server traffic analytics — every number I could possibly want, in one place. For months I had been building blind. 📊
Then we went at it. Instagram first, but the account was brand new so nothing moved. Then everywhere — YouTube Shorts, TikTok, Twitter, LinkedIn, Reddit, Snapchat. Spread too thin, none of it worked.
So we went all in on Instagram. And Instagram permanently suspended our account. Five or six times. No proper reason, verification done correctly every single time. We just kept making new ones. 💀
Banned five times. Made a sixth account anyway.

We tried paid boosts first. ₹1,000 on one reel got 50,000 views. ₹2,500 got 175,000+. But only a thousand or two actually clicked through, and the templates were not selling.
Because so many things have to line up for one sale — the hook, the season, and whether it is even the right moment for that person to send it. Nobody makes a girlfriend day page when it is not girlfriend day.
And then the best part. SEO. I knew roughly how it works. I had no idea how much power it holds. 😳
I went deep — blogs, keyword research, backlinks, structured data. And I aimed everything at girlfriend day and friendship day, which landed on a weekend. Best window I was ever going to get.
In just a few days we did more sales than everything before it, combined.

The base product. A much better editor. The whole creator system, automatic from upload to payout. International payments. SEO. Instagram. Actual revenue coming in.
Plus being the customer support guy too — reading feedback, fixing people's issues, and making sure the same issue never comes back. 💬
And honestly, that is the part I keep coming back to. Not the numbers. Somewhere out there, seven hundred people opened a link and saw their own name on it, and smiled.
That is what we actually built.
