TL;DR

The best pregnancy announcement to your husband is the one that lets him find out privately, first, and at a moment when he can actually react. Below are 12 ways to do it — five that cost nothing, four with a small prop, and three that work when he is in another city — plus short lines for the note and a list of what not to do. If you want one he can open by link, Lovely's Pregnancy Announcement page arrives as a parcel addressed to him and ends on a scratch card that reveals his new job title. ₹59, about ten minutes to make.

Why telling him is a different problem from telling everyone else

Every other pregnancy announcement is a broadcast. The family group, the parents, the Instagram post — those are about wording and order, and they come later. Telling your husband is the opposite: one person, one moment, and usually the only announcement where you will see the reaction in real time.

That changes what matters:

  • Privacy beats production. The best reactions happen when he isn't performing for anyone — no in-laws in the room, no phone recording him.
  • Timing beats the prop. A brilliant reveal on a night he walked in from a twelve-hour shift lands worse than a scribbled note on a quiet Sunday.
  • He should hear it first. In joint families especially, news travels fast. If his mother notices the dal going untouched before he notices anything, the moment is gone.

You probably already know whether your husband is the cry-immediately type or the go-quiet-and-ask-ten-practical-questions type. Pick the method for the man you married, not the one in the reels.

12 ways to tell your husband

Free, at home

  1. The test, gift-wrapped. Put it in a small box with a ribbon and hand it to him like it's nothing. Plainest idea on this list and still the most reliably emotional.
  2. A note in his tiffin. "Eat properly. You are now feeding two people's dad." He opens it at his desk in Gurugram or his site office in Pune, and the call comes in four minutes.
  3. The wallet chit. Slip a small paper into his wallet where the cash goes: "Promoted. Effective March." He finds it paying for chai.
  4. Ask him to take a photo of you — and hold up the test. He's looking at the screen, focusing, and then he's not.
  5. Change one thing on the fridge calendar. Write "due date?" on a day nine months out and wait for him to ask.

With a small prop

  1. A tiny pair of socks or a onesie in his IPL team's colours, folded on his pillow. CSK yellow has caused more than one grown man to sit down on the bed.
  2. A "Papa" mug for his morning chai. Works best if he makes his own tea and finds it without you watching.
  3. The scan photo in a frame, placed next to your wedding photo, if you've already had an early scan and he hasn't seen it.
  4. A scratch card — the old school-fair kind — with the news under the foil. Ten rupees at any stationery shop, or a printed one.

When he's away — or when you want him to keep it

  1. A video call with the test in frame. Don't say anything. Let him spot it. This is the one most couples split between Indian cities, the Gulf and the US end up using.
  2. A voice note recorded on the day you found out, sent when he's alone. Your voice on the day itself is something he will save.
  3. A page by link. A small interactive page he opens on his phone, that tells him one step at a time. It's the only option on this list that he can open again a year later and see exactly as it was.

What goes on the page

Lovely's Pregnancy Announcement template is built around one joke that every husband understands: a delivery is on its way.

  • The parcel. The page opens on a cardboard box stamped special delivery · 1 item, addressed to him, from you. "Contents: classified. very cute. FRAGILE — handle with love." He peels the tape across the lid — dragging it with his finger or tapping to tear it off — and the box pops open in a burst of hearts.
  • Live tracking. A courier tracking screen with an AWB number shows the "package" growing week by week: size of a rajma bean, a nimbu, an Alphonso mango, a nariyal, a pineapple, a watermelon. Each update has a line — "kicks at 2am. gets that from dad." He taps refresh tracking to move the little truck down the timeline. You choose how many updates appear, three to six.
  • Proof of delivery. A silver scratch card: your new job title, effective soon. He scratches with his finger and it says dad — or papa, or abba, or appa, whatever you write. "No training provided."
  • The delivery stamp. The finale shows the estimated delivery month, a spot for your scan photo with a heartbeat readout, a DELIVERED WITH LOVE stamp, the baby's surname, and a line where he "signs" for it.

Every line is editable. If you already have a child, the "from" field takes both your names — the older sibling sending the parcel is a lovely touch.

"Most people who build this one tell us they made it in the bathroom with the test still on the counter," says Lovely's founder. "The page is quick to make on purpose. That night isn't a night for a design project."

The steps

  1. Open the template and tap through the preview once, so you know what he'll see.
  2. Write his name on the parcel and yours in the "from" line.
  3. Rewrite the tracking lines in your own words — the fruit sizes are funny, but the line that names him is the one he'll quote back.
  4. Pick his title for the scratch card. Papa, dad, abba, appa, baba, or something only the two of you call it.
  5. Pay ₹59 by UPI and send the link — with as little caption as possible. "Parcel aaya hai tumhare liye" is enough.

If you're both at home, send it from the next room and listen.

A few lines for the note

Whatever method you pick, the note on top is where most people stall. These are written to be one line, screenshot-sized.

What NOT to do

  • Don't stage it in public unless you're certain he'll love that. A restaurant full of strangers turns a private moment into a performance.
  • Don't tell anyone first "just to plan the surprise." Sisters and best friends are the usual leak.
  • Don't film him without a word about it. If you want the reaction on video, prop the phone and tell him afterwards. Most men are fine with it; some are not, and you'll want to know which kind you have before it's on the family group.
  • Don't bury it in a bad day. If he's walked in angry about work, wait. The news keeps.
  • Don't write a long paragraph. He'll read the first line and look up at you. Let him.

After he knows

The next announcements follow a different logic — who hears second, what you say to parents who have been asking since the wedding, and when the wider family finds out. Telling your parents and in-laws covers that conversation, including the "don't tell your nani yet" negotiation. When you're ready to go public, pregnancy announcement captions has the lines for Instagram and WhatsApp status.

Further down the road, the godh bharai and the birth have their own pages: baby shower wishes in Hindi for the ceremony, and announcing a baby in India for the day the baby actually arrives. And if this news lands in a long-distance marriage, the practical side is in long-distance relationship after marriage.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best way to tell my husband I am pregnant?

The way that gives him a minute alone with the news before anyone else is involved. A wrapped test, a note in his tiffin or a link he opens on his phone all work because he finds out privately and gets to react however he reacts. The prop matters far less than the timing.

Should I tell my husband before anyone else?

In most families, yes. He is the one person who should not hear it second-hand, and many couples then decide together when to tell parents — often after the first-trimester scan. Telling his mother first, even by accident, is the single most common regret.

How do I tell my husband I am pregnant if he is in another city?

Send something he can open at his own pace, then call. A page by link works well for husbands posted in another city or working abroad, because he can open it in private and you can be on a video call when he does. Avoid sending the news as a plain text during his working hours.

What can I write in a pregnancy announcement note for my husband?

Keep it short and make him the subject: "Your new job title starts in March. No training provided." Or "Two of us are now waiting for you to come home." One line he can screenshot beats a paragraph, because he will want to read it again.

How much does a pregnancy announcement page cost on Lovely?

The Pregnancy Announcement template is ₹59 one-time, paid by UPI, card or netbanking. It opens as a parcel addressed to him, with tracking updates, a scratch card that reveals his new title and a final delivery stamp. There is no subscription and he does not need an account.
