TL;DR
An Eid greeting card online can be more than a crescent-and-lantern image. Lovely's Eid Mubarak template is a four-scene page: they find the moon with a spyglass on chaand raat, tap lanterns that each light up one of your duas, add six ingredients to a bowl of sheer khurma and stir, then break the seal on an eidi envelope worth "₹ ∞" with your photo. It costs ₹59 one-time, takes five to ten minutes, and goes out as one private link. Eid al-Fitr 2027 is expected around March 9–10 in India, subject to the moon.
What "an Eid card online" usually means — and the alternative
Most online Eid cards fall into one of three groups:
- Forwarded images. Free and universal. By noon on Eid, most phones hold the same crescent forty times.
- Design-tool cards. A template where you type your wish over a mosque silhouette and download an image. Your words, but still a picture in a chat.
- E-card catalogues. Animated cards with music, the same for everyone who picks them. (We've compared card sites and apps honestly in Lovely vs Greetings Island.)
The alternative is a small, private web page made of your own duas and photos — something the recipient taps through rather than glances at. It isn't meant for the 80-person family group. It's for the four or five people you'd most want at your dastarkhwan.
A scene-by-scene tour of the Eid card
1. Chaand raat — "chaand dikha?" Rooftops and minarets under a dusk sky turning from apricot to teal; everyone's upstairs looking for the moon. They drag a brass spyglass across the haze. A hint goes from "hmm, keep looking" to "warmer…" until the thin crescent locks into the lens and the screen says "chaand mubarak! you found it. obviously you did." Your photo sits on the rooftop, looking up.
2. A dua in every light. A string of fanoos lanterns hangs across the screen. Each one they tap glows warm and reveals one of your duas. The defaults mix funny and tender — "may your biryani always have the aloo," "may your phone never die at 2%," "may your heart stay exactly this soft" — and you replace them with your own. A stepper sets three to six lanterns.
3. Sheer khurma. "Ammi's recipe. your bowl. add it all in." Six ingredient buttons — doodh, seviyan, cheeni, khajoor, mewa and zafran — each fly into the bowl when tapped. Then they stir until it steams, while your photo waits beside it, ready to taste: "the sweetest thing at the table. (after you.)"
4. Your eidi. An envelope with a crescent seal and the line "don't count it in front of me." They break the seal and a note slides out: "₹ ∞ — plus one chai date. non-refundable." Under it are their name, your message and your sign-off, with a photo of you both inside the note.
Every word — duas, eidi note, both names — and all three photos are editable.
Make it in five steps
- Open the template. Start from the Eid Mubarak template. No code, no design.
- Write the duas. These are the heart of it. Three to six, mixing one funny, one tender and one about the year ahead. Stuck? Borrow from Eid Mubarak wishes or the couplets in Eid Mubarak wishes in Urdu and Hindi — any script works.
- Rewrite the eidi note. "₹ ∞ plus one chai date" is the default. For a younger cousin: "₹ ∞ — and the real ₹501 is in your UPI." For Ammi: "₹ ∞ — and a ticket home for Bakrid."
- Add three photos and both names. The rooftop photo, the kitchen taster and the one inside the envelope. An old Eid photo — new clothes, crooked mehendi — beats a polished portrait.
- Pay ₹59 and share. One-time, by UPI, card or netbanking. You get a private link and QR code; it opens in any phone browser, with no app or account on their side.
Who an Eid card online is really for
- The spouse, on your first Eid together. The default lines are written for exactly this — "you're the dua that already came true." Wedding season means a lot of couples meet their first Eid as a married pair within months. Our shaadi mubarak wishes cover the wedding itself; this is the first festival after it.
- The family member in the Gulf. Millions of Indian families have someone working in Dubai, Riyadh, Doha or Kuwait at Eid. The time difference is small, so the card can land right after their Eid prayer. Pair it with a video call.
- The younger sibling or cousin. A digital eidi with a real UPI transfer mentioned in the note. They'll open the envelope three times.
- Ammi and Abbu, when you can't fly home. Write the duas in the language they read — Urdu script, Devanagari or Roman Urdu — and make the eidi note about coming home next time.
- The best friend. Rewrite the defaults for friendship; Eid Mubarak messages for friends has lines to start from.
"An Eid card works when it gives them something to do," says Lovely's founder. "Finding the moon, stirring the khurma, breaking the seal — that's the Eid they remember from childhood."

When to send it
- Chaand raat, right after the sighting. The card's first scene is the moon hunt, so this is its natural moment — they find the crescent on screen the same night everyone is on the roof.
- After the Eid prayer. Mid-morning, once the namaz, the embraces and the first plate are done. Calmer, and they'll sit with it.
Avoid scheduling for a fixed date weeks ahead. Eid depends on the moon, and in India the day is often confirmed only the evening before.
Using it for Eid al-Adha
The moon-sighting and sheer khurma scenes are Eid al-Fitr in spirit, but nothing is locked. For Bakrid, rewrite the duas around gratitude, sharing and family, swap the kitchen line, and change the headline wish to "Eid ul-Azha Mubarak" or "Bakrid Mubarak." Eid al-Adha 2027 is expected in mid-May, again subject to the moon.
What NOT to do
- Don't leave the couple defaults in for family. "Plus one chai date" reads very differently when it's sent to your Khala.
- Don't invent religious text. Warm, original duas and well-known greetings are safest. Leave scripture to those who know it.
- Don't send it to the family group. It's a private link for one person. Post a wish for everyone else.
- Don't promise real eidi in the note and forget to send it. The infinite one is a joke; the UPI one is a promise.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make an Eid greeting card online?
Choose a template, write your duas, add photos and share the link. Lovely's Eid Mubarak template takes about five to ten minutes: you rewrite the lantern duas and the eidi note, add three photos, set both names, pay ₹59 once and get a private link and QR code to send on WhatsApp.
Can I send eidi with an online Eid card?
The card's eidi envelope is symbolic — it opens to a note worth "₹ ∞" with your photo and message. If you want to send real eidi, send it by UPI separately and mention it in the note, for example "real eidi in your UPI, the infinite one is here". Children and younger cousins love getting both.
Does the online Eid card work for Eid al-Adha?
The moon-sighting and sheer khurma scenes make it feel most like Eid al-Fitr, but every line is editable. For Bakrid, rewrite the duas and the kitchen line around gratitude, sharing and family, and change the headline wish. The same link works for whichever Eid you send it on.
When should I send an Eid card?
Either on chaand raat, right after the moon is sighted, or after the Eid prayer the next morning. Sending on chaand raat gives the card its moment — they find the moon on screen the same night everyone is on the roof. Do not schedule it for a fixed date weeks ahead, because the day depends on the moon.
Is an online Eid card free?
Image-based e-cards and design tools offer free Eid cards that are fine for a group. Lovely's interactive Eid card costs ₹59 one-time because it is a hosted page with your own photos and duas. There is no subscription, and the recipient opens it free in any browser without an account.
