TL;DR
64 original Happy Diwali wishes, sorted by who you're sending to: short WhatsApp lines, warm wishes for people you love, safe ones for colleagues and clients, a Devanagari section, Hinglish one-liners, funny wishes, and lines for anyone away from home. Diwali 2026 — Lakshmi Puja — is Sunday, November 8. Tap a line to copy it, add the person's name at the front, and you're done.
Sort by who, not by how fancy
The Diwali problem isn't finding a wish. It's that by 7 pm on Lakshmi Puja you have 200 forwards from 40 people, most of them the same diya GIF, and you're about to add one more.
A wish gets read when it fits the person. So this page is sorted by who it's for, not by adjective count:
- Everyone, quickly — short lines for the contact list.
- The people you love — the ones worth a real sentence.
- Colleagues and clients — warm, safe, no inside jokes.
- देवनागरी and Hinglish — for family elders and for status.
- Funny — for the friends who'll screenshot it.
- Away from home — hostels, PGs, Bengaluru flats, Toronto.
If you need a deeper bank for one group, there are dedicated pages: Diwali wishes in Hindi for full Hindi, Diwali messages for family for parents, siblings and in-laws, and Diwali wishes for girlfriend or boyfriend for the one person who deserves more than a forward.
Short wishes for the whole contact list (12)
Warm wishes for the people you love (10)
For a best friend, a sibling, a mentor — anyone who'd notice if you sent them the same line as your dentist.
For colleagues and clients (8)
Warm, brief, no religious specifics they might not share — safe for a Slack channel, a client email or a WhatsApp to your manager.
देवनागरी — for elders and family groups (10)
Devanagari reads as respect for a dadi, a mama ji, a family group where half the members never switched to English. Each line copies with its romanized version.
Hinglish one-liners for WhatsApp status (10)
Romanized lines read best on status — they survive the crop and render on every phone.
Funny Diwali wishes (8)
For anyone away from home (6)
Hostel rooms, PG kitchens, first jobs in a new city, a flat in Manchester with one diya on the windowsill.
When a wish should be more than a forward
A wish works for 199 of your 200 contacts. For the one person who should get something different — a partner, a best friend, a sibling in another city, the parents you can't visit — Lovely's Happy Diwali template turns the festival into a visit.
It opens on a carved wooden door under a marigold toran. They tap to swing it open and someone's waiting in the warm light inside — your photo. Then the room goes dark: every diya they light reveals one of your lines (you choose 3 to 7), and string lights come on above until "the whole house is glowing." Next they pick powder colours — rani pink, marigold, haldi yellow, leaf green, peacock blue — and the rangoli blooms around your photo. A mithai box opens to up to six sweets, each with its own caption (jalebi: our plans. never straight. always good.). The finale steps outside: they press and hold a phuljhadi, and it writes their name across the night sky.
The default lines are written for someone you love, but every word, the name, your sign-off and all four photos are editable. It's ₹79 one-time; you get a link and a QR code in about five minutes. If you're pairing it with a hamper or a saree, the QR-on-the-box idea explains how to make the page open at unwrap.
"Diwali is the one day people tell us they deliberately didn't send a forward," says Lovely's founder. "They pick one person and make them a page instead."
Make it yours: the one edit
Put their name first, and swap one general word for one specific one.
- "Happy Diwali!" → "Happy Diwali, Neha!"
- "your home" → "your new flat in Whitefield"
- "kaju katli" → "the kaju katli you hide behind the atta dabba"
- "the year you had" → "the year you finally switched jobs"
Five seconds, and the wish can no longer be forwarded by anyone else.
What NOT to do:
- Don't broadcast-list a romantic line — it will reach your boss.
- Don't send a cracker-heavy wish to someone with pets, a newborn or asthma at home.
- Don't send at 11:58 pm on the 8th; send on the evening of Choti Diwali or on Lakshmi Puja day.
- Don't attach a 40 MB video to a family group. Half of them are on mobile data at a relative's house.
For siblings, Bhai Dooj follows two days later — Bhai Dooj 2026 message ideas covers that day separately.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good short Happy Diwali wish?
One line with one image and no clichés stacked on top of each other — "Wishing you light that lasts longer than the phuljhadi. Happy Diwali." Short wishes work best on WhatsApp because they get read in full in the notification. Add the person's name at the start and it stops looking like a broadcast.
When is Diwali in 2026?
The main day, Lakshmi Puja, is Sunday, November 8, 2026. The festival runs across five days — Dhanteras on Friday, November 6, Choti Diwali on Saturday, November 7, Lakshmi Puja on the 8th, Govardhan Puja on Monday, November 9, and then Bhai Dooj. Most wishes go out on the evening of the 7th and through the 8th.
What Diwali wish should I send to colleagues or clients?
Keep it warm, brief and free of religious specifics they might not share — wish them and their family light, health and a good year, and thank them for the year's work. "Wishing you and your family a bright and prosperous Diwali. Thank you for a wonderful year of working together" is safe for almost any workplace in India.
Should I send Diwali wishes in Hindi or English?
Match the person. English or Hinglish for friends and colleagues across regions, Devanagari Hindi for family elders and anyone who would read it as care. Romanized Hinglish travels best on WhatsApp status because it renders cleanly on every phone and crops well.
What can I send instead of a forwarded Diwali image?
A page they open like a door. Lovely's Happy Diwali template lets them light diyas that each reveal one of your lines, pour a rangoli around your photo, pick sweets from a mithai box and hold a phuljhadi that writes their name in the sky — ₹79 one-time, about five minutes to build.
