For the friendship that has a whole history

you & me — an ongoing story

₹49

A long-scroll story page — how you met, an alternating timeline of your years together, a photo gallery, and running stats. Basically a friendversary in web-page form.

TL;DR

A friendversary is your friendship's anniversary — and yes, it deserves an actual plan, not just a "wow, X years" text at 11 PM. Pick your date (day you met, first trip, first 3 AM call — anything defensible), pick an idea from the budget-sorted list below, and steal one of the 30 wishes to go with it. If you want the one gift that fits every friendversary, it's the friendship's own story told back to them — which is exactly what a scrolling timeline page does in about fifteen minutes. And if the date happens to fall near August, you can double it up with Friendship Day 2026 on Sunday, 2 August.

What actually counts as a friendversary

Couples get a date handed to them. Friends have to choose one, and honestly, the choosing is half the fun. Any of these are legitimate:

  • The day you met. First day of school, first day of the job, the hostel room allotment that changed everything. If you know the exact date, congratulations, you're the archivist of the friendship.
  • The day it became a friendship. Plenty of friendships have a boring intro and a real origin story — the night you talked till 4 AM, the exam you survived together, the wedding where you were both stuck at the boring table.
  • The first trip. For a lot of Indian friendships, the friendship existed before Goa but was ratified in Goa.
  • The day one of you got adopted into the family. When their mother started asking why you haven't eaten, or your dad started calling them beta unprompted — that's a legal date. Court will accept it.
  • A rebuilt date. If you fought, drifted for two years, and found your way back, the reunion date can be the one you count. Some friendships are proudest of their second chapter.

Can't establish any date? First Sunday of August exists precisely for this — here's everything about Friendship Day 2026.

Friendversary ideas by budget and effort

₹0, low effort (but still not lazy)

  • The memory audit. Scroll to your oldest chat with them, screenshot the earliest ridiculous message you can find, send it with "X years of this. No regrets."
  • The rewatch. Whatever film or series was yours in year one, watch it again the same night on a call.
  • The origin retelling. Voice note, three minutes, telling the story of how you met from your side. They know the story. They've never heard your version.

₹0–₹200, medium effort

  • Recreate day one. Same canteen, same chai tapri, same street food, same order. The place doing all the emotional heavy lifting costs forty rupees.
  • A one-page letter. Handwritten, one page, no jokes allowed in the last paragraph. Costs a sheet of paper and more courage than you'd expect.
  • The year-in-review. Ten photos from the last year of friendship, sent in order, each with one line of commentary. A private award show for an audience of one.

₹25–₹100, the digital-gift tier

This is where a personal page sits — more on the timeline idea below, but the short version: for less than the cost of the celebratory momos, you can build something they'll reopen in five years. A friendship timeline page is ₹49; a promise-card page is ₹25.

₹500–₹2,000, the big-year tier

For year 5, year 10, or the first friendversary after one of you moved cities: a planned meal at the old haunt, a train ticket, a framed print of your worst photo together. If you're gift-hunting seriously, the Friendship Day gift guide ranks options from ₹0 to ₹2,000 and every one of them works for a friendversary too.

30 friendship anniversary wishes, sorted by years

House rule before you copy: every line below has a [bracket] or a detail to swap — the year, the place, the inside joke. Change one detail so it reads written-for-them, or don't bother sending it.

1 year down (still counting in months, honestly)

  1. "One year since [where we met], and you've already heard my worst stories twice. Happy friendversary."
  2. "365 days, roughly 9,000 messages, zero regrets. Happy one year to us."
  3. "A year ago you were a stranger. Today you're the reason my phone battery dies. Growth."
  4. "Happy friendversary! One year in and you already know which of my 'I'm fine' texts are lies."
  5. "Some friendships take a decade to feel like this. Ours took about a week. Happy year one."
  6. "One year of you. My screen time report says it's been the best decision I didn't plan."
  7. "Happy first friendversary — here's to becoming the old annoying kind of friends."

5 years in (past the trial period)

  1. "Five years, [number] fights, zero successful attempts at getting rid of each other. Happy friendversary."
  2. "Half a decade of you knowing exactly what I'm going to say and letting me say it anyway."
  3. "Five years since [year]. The jobs changed, the cities changed, the group chat name changed eleven times. We didn't."
  4. "Happy 5 years to the friend who's now legally obligated to be in my wedding photos."
  5. "Five years of split bills, shared secrets, and you stealing my food 'just to taste.' Wouldn't change one bite."
  6. "In five years you've seen me at my worst about forty times and stayed for all of them. Noted. Forever."
  7. "Happy friendversary, [name]. Five years down, and you're still my first 'you won't believe this' call."
  8. "Five years ago I met you. My personality has been 30% you ever since."

10 years in (basically a joint venture)

  1. "Ten years. We've officially outlasted most Bollywood marriages. Happy friendversary."
  2. "A decade of you. If loyalty had a face, it'd be you rolling your eyes at me."
  3. "Ten years since [place]. Everything about my life is different except who I call first."
  4. "Happy 10 years to the friend who has enough blackmail material to end me and uses it only at parties."
  5. "One decade, three phones, two cities, one friendship that never needed maintenance. Happy friendversary."
  6. "Ten years of showing up. You've earned permanent character status in every story I tell."
  7. "We were kids with one plan when this started. The plan changed. You didn't. Happy 10, [name]."
  8. "A decade in and you still text 'reached?' when I travel. That's the whole friendship, really."

Childhood friends and the forever tier

  1. "We've been friends longer than we've been anything else. Happy friendversary, original teammate."
  2. "You knew me before I had a personality to defend. Terrifying. Grateful. Happy friendversary."
  3. "From [school] to whatever this decade is — same joke format, same person, same team."
  4. "Our friendship is old enough to have its own friendship. Happy friendversary, [name]."
  5. "Twenty-odd years and your mom still feeds me first. That's the real anniversary."
  6. "Everyone else got to choose their history. Mine came with you in it, and I got lucky. Happy friendversary."
  7. "No beginning date, no expiry date. Happy friendversary to the friend who was always just… there. In the best way."

The timeline page, in depth

Here's the friendversary problem with texts: they're the right sentiment in the wrong container. "10 years of us" deserves more than a bubble that gets buried by Monday.

The gift that actually fits the occasion is the friendship's own story — and that's what the you & me — an ongoing story template is built as. It's a long-scroll page: the how-we-met chapter up top, then an alternating timeline where each entry is one year or one era of the friendship, a photo gallery, and running stats. You fill it with your real material:

  • The origin scene. Where, when, and the first impression that turned out to be completely wrong.
  • One timeline entry per era. School bench. The hostel year. The internship where you both earned nothing. The year one of you moved. The comeback.
  • The worst photos you have. A friendversary page is legally required to include at least one photo they've begged you to delete.
  • Stats. Years counted, cities survived, plans made versus trips actually taken.

It takes ten to fifteen minutes, costs ₹49, and — this is the part texts can't do — it lives at a private link they can reopen. On the next friendversary you'll both be back on it, arguing about which year was the best one. That's the ritual forming. If you want to prep material for it, the 50 appreciation lines make excellent timeline captions, and a round of deep questions with your best friend will surface stories you'd both half-forgotten.

When the year deserves more than a text

Match the page to the friendversary:

  • you & me — an ongoing story — the full timeline treatment; the default friendversary artifact, especially for year 5 and up.
  • Friendship Promise — 8 scenes with a time-together counter and promise cards; perfect for year one, when the history is short but the intent is loud.
  • Thanks, Bestie — scrapbook with a photo board and one honest paragraph, for the friendversary that's really a thank-you in disguise.

Any of them takes about fifteen minutes to build. Here's how the whole thing works.

Frequently asked questions

What is a friendversary?

A friendversary is a friendship anniversary — the yearly marker of when a friendship began. There's no official rule for the date: day you met, first trip, first real conversation, or the day their family started treating you as furniture. Pick one and defend it forever.

How do I celebrate a friendship anniversary with no money?

Specific beats expensive. Recreate the first thing you did together, send a voice note telling the origin story from your side, or assemble a timeline of the friendship — even a photo dump in chronological order with one-line captions counts. Effort is the gift.

What do I say on a friendship anniversary?

Name the number and one specific thing: "Seven years since [place], and you're still my first call." One specific sentence beats three generic paragraphs. If it outgrows a chat bubble, put it on a page.

Should long-distance friends celebrate a friendversary?

Especially them — distance kills rituals quietly, and this is the easiest one to keep. A scheduled call on the date, plus something they can keep and reopen, does more than a month of sporadic "we should talk" texts.
