TL;DR
65 original two-line sad shayari in Hindi and romanized Hinglish, sorted by what is causing it — a person, a distance, or nothing you can name. Sad shayari has one enormous failure mode, which is performing the pain until the actual feeling disappears underneath it, and every line here was written against that. There are 65 lines, not 400, and the last section has a short honest note about the kind of sadness a couplet cannot help with. Tap any line to copy.
Sort by the cause, not by the mood
Almost every sad shayari page is one long undifferentiated list. That is why people scroll for six minutes and copy nothing: the line about a lover who left is sitting next to a line about being tired of life, and neither fits the person actually reading.
Sadness has causes, and the causes need different sentences.
- Jab wajah ek insaan hai — somebody did something, or stopped doing something.
- Jab wajah doori hai — nobody did anything wrong; they are simply not here.
- Jab koi wajah nahi hai — the heaviest one, and the one every bank skips because there is no story to hang a rhyme on.
Find your section. Skip the other two — half the reason sad lines feel fake is that people copy from the wrong cause.
One thing this page will not do: the attitude turn. No revenge lines, no "ek din tum royoge", no "main tumhe dikha dunga". That register is everywhere and it is not sadness, it is anger wearing sadness as a costume, and it makes the person who posts it look worse than they feel.
1. Jab wajah ek insaan hai (16)
Somebody is the reason. These say so without billing them for it.
2. Jab wajah doori hai (14)
Nobody did anything. They are just not here, and that is its own weight. If the distance is the whole story rather than the sadness, long distance relationship shayari and 2 line yaad shayari are the fuller pages for it.
3. Jab koi khaas wajah nahi hai (12)
No fight, no distance, no story. Just a low week for no reason you can name. The banks skip this because there is nothing to rhyme against — which is exactly why it needed writing.
If it is the third one, and it is not lifting
This is the only section on this page that is not poetry, and it is here on purpose.
A bad week is a bad week, and a couplet is a fine companion for it. But if the third section is where you live — most days, for more than a couple of weeks — and it has come with changed sleep, no appetite, or a flatness that does not respond to anything you used to like, that is not a mood to write shayari about. It is a thing to talk to somebody about, and it is extremely common.
India's national mental health helpline is Tele-MANAS. It is free, runs 24x7 on 14416, and answers in many Indian languages. You do not need a diagnosis, a referral or a crisis to call it. If you have been having thoughts of not wanting to be here, please call it today rather than posting a status.
Sending that number to a friend whose statuses have gone dark for a month is not overstepping. It is the most loyal thing on this page.
शुद्ध देवनागरी — 2 line sad shayari in Hindi (14)
For the message that should look deliberate. Each line copies with its romanized version attached.
Hinglish 2 line status lines (9)
Romanized and short, because the status box truncates and Devanagari eats the visible characters faster.
What NOT to post
- A line aimed at one person, posted where forty people can see it. That is a message with an audience, and it makes the person it is about defensive rather than sorry.
- The revenge turn. "Ek din tum royoge" is not sad shayari. It is anger in a nicer font, and everyone reading can tell.
- Nine sad statuses in one week. The first is honest. By the ninth, the people who love you have stopped worrying and started scrolling.
- A famous couplet with your name under it. Attribution costs nothing.
- Anything that romanticises not being okay. There is a genre that makes sadness look like a personality. It is not, and it makes the actual thing harder to talk about.
When two lines aren't enough room
A two-line shayari is a very good container for one feeling. It is a bad container for a whole story, and there are two moments when people reach the edge of it.
When the person it is about should actually hear it. A status they might see is the long way around. If there is something you have been half-saying for months, say it to them.
When there are more than two lines of it. That is the thing our Things I Never Said template is for, at ₹49. It is a drafts folder made visible: the chat messages you scratched out stay scratched out, polaroids carry the thought you were actually having, there is a real 2 AM voice memo in your own voice, and the handwritten letter keeps its strike-throughs. The edits are the honesty — showing the four versions you deleted proves what the final one cost.
"Everyone's drafts folder is more honest than their sent messages," says Ganesh, Lovely's founder. "We just made a page out of the drafts."
If you would rather turn a line into something you can hand over — a frame, an image, a page, or a paid custom-shayari service — a personalized shayari gift compares all four with real prices.
Make it yours: the one edit
Sad lines are the easiest to make generic and the most obvious when they are. One detail fixes it, and the detail should be small.
Before: Achhi khabar aayi thi aaj. Sunane wala koi nahi tha.
After: Aaj promotion mila. Phone uthaya, teesra number tumhara tha, aur maine rakh diya.
The second is a specific Tuesday. Nobody can forward it, and nobody will mistake it for a template.
- Name the actual thing that happened. "Promotion" beats "achhi khabar".
- Name the hour. "1:40" beats "raat ko".
- Keep it to two lines. If it needs a third, it is not a status any more — it is a message.
- Delete any line that predicts their future. That is the single edit that separates sadness from attitude.
Frequently asked questions
What is 2 line sad shayari?
Two-line sad shayari is the shortest form of Hindi sad poetry — one thought, split across two lines, sized for a WhatsApp status or an Instagram story. The brevity is not a limitation. A sad thought stated once and stopped is usually truer than the same thought stretched across eight lines.
Why does this page have 65 lines when other sites have hundreds?
Because a bank of four hundred lines is four hundred lines nobody read before publishing. These are sorted by what is actually causing the sadness, translated both ways, and written to be edited rather than pasted. If you want volume, plenty of sites will give you volume.
Should I post sad shayari on my WhatsApp status?
It is fine, and extremely normal in India. Two honest cautions: a status is read by your boss, your cousin and your ex simultaneously, and if it is aimed at one person, it is a message and should be sent as one. Post it because it is true for you, not because you want a particular person to see it.
Is it okay to feel sad without a reason?
Yes, and the third section of this page is written for exactly that. If it has been most days for more than two weeks, or if sleep and appetite have changed with it, that is worth talking to someone about. India's Tele-MANAS helpline is free, runs 24x7 on 14416, and answers in many Indian languages.
Devanagari or romanized for a sad status?
Romanized reads faster and fits the status box better — Devanagari uses up the visible character budget quicker, so long lines get truncated mid-thought. Use Devanagari when the line is going into a message or a card and you want it to look considered. Every Devanagari line here copies with its roman version attached.
