TL;DR

An online Navratri greeting can be something they play, not just read. Lovely's Happy Navratri template opens on a ring of nine colour swatches — one per night — that each reveal a line you wrote, moves into a garba circle that grows every time they tap "taali!", then dandiya sticks that light up your photos in mirror frames, and ends with their name and "jai mata di". It costs ₹59 one-time, takes about five minutes to make, and opens from a WhatsApp link. Below: what each screen does and what to write on it.

Who misses Navratri the most

Navratri is a festival of physical presence — a crowd, a circle, a beat you feel through the ground. That's exactly why it's the one people feel most when they're away from it: the Baroda girl in her first job in Gurugram, the Ahmedabad boy doing his master's in Texas, the couple who've played garba together every year since college and are in two cities now.

A text saying "Happy Navratri, miss you" is true and a little sad. A page that lets them tap the colours, clap the circle and strike the sticks gives them nine minutes of the thing they're missing — with your words in it.

What the page does, scene by scene

  1. Nine colours. "nine nights. one you." Nine colour swatches sit in a ring. They tap one; the centre shows the night ("day 7 · royal blue") and one of your lines. They can tap all nine in any order.
  2. The garba circle. "join the circle. clap on the beat." A garbo glows at the centre of the floor. Each time they tap "taali!", a new ring of dancers spreads out around it and one of your garba lines appears. You choose how many claps: 3 to 6.
  3. Dandiya. "tak. tak. tak." Two sticks at the bottom of the screen. Every strike makes a spark and lights up one of your photos inside a mirror-work frame, with a caption under each. You choose how many photos: 2 to 4.
  4. The finale. "happy navratri", their name in big letters, your closing line ("nine nights, and you're the reason i'd dance all of them."), "jai mata di ✦", your sign-off, and a "dance again" button.

Every word is editable, and so is every photo.

Writing the nine colour lines

This is the heart of the page, and the defaults show the trick: each colour gets a line that ties its mood to the person.

| Night | Colour | Default line | | --- | --- | --- | | 1 | Yellow | "bright like your 6am 'good morning' texts." | | 2 | Green | "you make everything grow. even my patience." | | 3 | Grey | "calm, grey, unbothered. iconic." | | 4 | Orange | "orange = louder you. my favourite." | | 5 | White | "white. the 'i'm innocent' face you do." | | 6 | Red | "red. the energy you dance with." | | 7 | Royal blue | "royal blue. because you are royalty." | | 8 | Pink | "pink. obviously. you're the main character." | | 9 | Purple | "purple. the last night. the best night." |

How to write your own nine:

  • One colour, one trait. Don't try to fit a memory into each. "Red: the saree you wore to my cousin's wedding" is enough.
  • Mix moods. Three funny, three sweet, two teasing, and save the most sincere one for purple — night nine is the one people tap last.
  • Keep it under ten words. It sits in a small circle in the middle of the wheel.
  • Don't worry about the official colours. The wheel's nine colours are a fixed, playful set. The Maharashtra Navratri colour list changes every year, so the page isn't trying to match it — it's about the person, not the calendar.

Short on ideas? The Navratri wishes bank has nine lines written for the nine forms of Durga, which can be adapted into colour lines for a parent or grandparent.

Writing the garba lines

The garba scene counts claps, and the default lines count with it — "clap 1: you showed up. the night started." through "clap 6: okay fine, one more round." Keep the numbering; it gives the scene a rhythm. A few patterns that work:

  • A story told in rounds. Clap 1 is how you met, clap 2 is your first garba together, clap 3 is the time someone fell, clap 4 is the 2 a.m. chai.
  • Things only they do. "clap 3: aunties stopped to watch. fair." is the template's version. Write the one thing everyone at the ground notices about them.
  • End on an invitation. "clap 5: no circle is complete without you." is the line that makes people text back "next year, together".

The garba night captions bank is a good quarry — most of those lines fit a clap with one edit.

Choosing the dandiya photos

Up to four photos appear, one per stick strike, each in a round mirror-work frame. Default captions: "matching outfits", "dandiya partner", "2am giggles", "best dancer award".

  • Use garba or festival photos if you have them. Blurry, mid-spin, slightly overexposed — perfect.
  • No festival photos together? Use any four of the two of you, and rewrite the captions to be Navratri-ish: "future dandiya partner", "the outfit you'd wear".
  • Faces in the centre. The frames are circles.

The steps, start to finish

  1. Open the Happy Navratri template and tap create. Sign in with email or Google.
  2. Rewrite the first screen — the "navratri · for…" line with their name.
  3. Write the nine colour lines. Tap each swatch in the preview to reach its line.
  4. Write the garba lines and set the number of claps (3–6).
  5. Add the dandiya photos and captions, and set how many (2–4).
  6. Edit the finale — their name, your line, your sign-off. Swap "jai mata di" for "Shubho Sharodiya" if they're celebrating Durga Puja.
  7. Preview on your phone, then pay ₹59 once via Razorpay (UPI, card or netbanking).
  8. Send the link or QR on the first night — or the night they'd usually be at the ground.

Honest cost table

| Route | Upfront | Recurring | Time | They take part | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Happy Navratri on Lovely | ₹59 one-time | ₹0 | ~5 min | Yes — tap, clap, strike | | Custom domain add-on | +₹100 one-time | ₹0 | +2 min | — | | Free e-card / image maker | ₹0 | ₹0 | 10–20 min | No | | Video call during garba | ₹0 | data | Live | Yes, if the network holds | | Courier a chaniya choli | ₹1,500–5,000 | — | 3–7 days | They wear it |

The best combination is honestly the video call and the page: the call for the noise, the page for the words you wouldn't shout over a speaker. If you're comparing digital greeting tools more broadly, the honest look at free greeting card makers in India covers where a static card is enough.

What NOT to do

  • Don't leave the default name in. "for Riya" is the template's placeholder — check the first screen and the finale.
  • Don't fill all nine colours with compliments. Nine compliments in a row reads like a greeting card. Tease a little.
  • Don't send it on Dussehra. That's the end of the festival. Night one is the moment.
  • Don't apologise for not being there. The page is you being there.
  • Don't forget the photos. The dandiya scene without your own photos is the weakest screen on the page.

When a forward isn't enough

"We see a spike of Navratri pages from couples in two different cities," says Lovely's founder. "The colour wheel turns into a nine-night calendar for them — one tap every evening."

For most people on your list, a WhatsApp line is right, and the 63 Navratri wishes and 70 Navratri Instagram captions are there for that. The page is for the one or two people who'd be in the circle with you if they could. And if they're missing more than one festival this year, the long-distance festival ideas guide has more ways to close the gap.

Frequently asked questions

How do I send a Navratri greeting online?

Make a short greeting page instead of forwarding an image. On Lovely, pick the Happy Navratri template, rewrite the nine colour lines and the garba lines, add up to four photos and publish. It takes about five minutes and gives you a link and a QR code that open on any phone.

What does the Happy Navratri greeting page include?

Four scenes: a ring of nine colour swatches where each night reveals one of your lines, a garba circle around a glowing garbo that grows each time they tap "taali!", dandiya sticks that light up two to four of your photos in mirror frames, and a finale with their name and "jai mata di".

How much does an online Navratri greeting cost?

Lovely's Happy Navratri template is ₹59 one-time through UPI, card or netbanking. There is no subscription and hosting is included. A custom domain is an optional ₹100 add-on.

Can I send it for Durga Puja or Dussehra too?

Yes. Every line is editable, so you can swap "jai mata di" for "Shubho Sharodiya" or "Shubho Bijoya", or write the finale as a Dussehra wish. The garba and dandiya scenes are Gujarati in spirit, but the colour wheel works for any Navratri tradition.

Who is an online Navratri greeting best for?

Anyone missing the festival in person — a friend who moved away from Ahmedabad or Vadodara, a partner in another city, family abroad — and couples who dance together every year. For a large group, one page shared in the family group works too.
