62 original griha pravesh wishes in Hindi — short shubhkamnayein, blessings from elders, lines for friends, lines for parents and siblings, Hinglish for WhatsApp status, puja-themed lines, card lines and a few in English for relatives abroad. Every Devanagari line copies with its romanized version attached, so it works on a card and on a phone. Tap to copy, then make the one edit at the bottom. For English housewarming wishes — funny ones, colleague-safe ones, a friend's first flat — see housewarming wishes.
Griha pravesh is a blessing, not a congratulation
In English, a housewarming is a party. In Hindi, griha pravesh is a puja — the family enters the house for the first time after a havan, the kalash, the toran on the door. So the wishes lean toward aashirwad rather than "congrats": sukh, shanti, samriddhi, Lakshmi ka vaas, bachchon ki kilkari.
That's why a Hindi wish sounds right for this day in a way "congratulations on the property" never does. If you want the ceremony itself — the three types of griha pravesh, muhurat and vastu — the griha pravesh guide covers it.
Chhoti shubhkamnayein — short wishes (10)
For WhatsApp, the family group or a quick reply to the puja photos.
Badon ka aashirwad — from elders (8)
For dadi, nana, a mausaji or a family elder writing to the younger household. Short, the way elders actually bless.
Doston ke liye — for friends (8)
Parivaar ke liye — parents, bhai, didi (8)
When it's your parents' own house after years of rentals, or a sibling's first flat — the wish you send carries a family history.
Hinglish status lines (10)
Romanized reads best on WhatsApp status — it survives the crop, renders on every phone, and nobody has to switch keyboards to reply.
Puja-themed lines — kalash, toran, tulsi (6)
Card lines (6)
Devanagari on a printed card reads as care in a way romanized Hindi doesn't. Two lines and your family's name are enough.
English, for relatives abroad (6)
For the cousins in Toronto and Dubai who will reply in English anyway.
When the griha pravesh is your own
Wishes are what guests send. If it's your own griha pravesh — or your parents', and you're the one in another city handling the invitations — Lovely's Housewarming Invite does the invite as a small walk-through. It opens on your front door with a toran of mango leaves and marigolds. The guest drags a key to the lock, the door opens, and they tap through your floor plan room by room — living room, kitchen, pooja corner, balcony — each with a line you wrote. Then they light five diyas one by one, and each diya draws another ring of a rangoli, ending in a shower of petals. The invite card carries the puja and lunch details and two buttons: count me in and i'll be late (obviously). ₹49 one-time, sent to the family group as a single link.
"The diya scene was written for the griha pravesh specifically," says Lovely's founder. "Guests light the lamps themselves, which is the closest a link gets to standing at the door with the family."
What NOT to send
A forwarded image with someone else's name on it. Elders notice.
Vastu advice. The puja is done. The kitchen is where it is.
Questions about the price or the loan, in any language.
Only "party kab hai?" Bless first.
Make it theirs: the one edit
Add the family's name or one detail of the house. "Is ghar mein sada Lakshmi ka vaas ho" becomes "Verma ji ke is naye ghar mein sada Lakshmi ka vaas ho." "Tere naye ghar ki balcony" becomes "Tere naye ghar ki woh Whitefield wali balcony." One word of theirs turns a forward into a wish.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good griha pravesh wish in Hindi?
A blessing for the life in the house, not just the house — "Aapka naya ghar sukh, shanti aur samriddhi se bhara rahe." Griha pravesh is a puja, so wishes in Hindi lean toward aashirwad rather than congratulations. Add the family's name or the city and it reads as written for them.
How do elders bless a griha pravesh in Hindi?
With a short aashirwad that names the household — "Sada sukhi raho, is ghar mein Lakshmi ka vaas ho, aur bachchon ki kilkari goonje." Elders' wishes are usually one or two sentences and are often said in person after the puja; the written version goes on a card or a call.
What do I write on a griha pravesh card in Hindi?
Two lines in Devanagari: a blessing and your names. "Naye ghar ki hardik shubhkamnayein. Yeh aangan sada khushiyon se mehke. — Sharma parivaar." Devanagari reads as more personal on a printed card than romanized Hindi.
Should I send griha pravesh wishes in Devanagari or Hinglish?
Devanagari for elders, cards and the family group, where the script itself reads as respect. Romanized Hinglish for WhatsApp status and friends, because it renders on every phone and fits on one screen. Every Hindi line on this page copies in both scripts.
What can I send if I cannot attend the griha pravesh?
Send the wish on the morning of the puja, not after, with a line promising a visit — "Puja mein nahi aa paaye, par pehli chai aapke naye ghar mein hi peeyenge." A UPI shagun or a courier gift alongside the message is completely normal.
