For someone stuck in bed

Get Well Soon

₹59

A pocket clinic for one patient: a prescription pad you stamp, a blister pack where every pill pops out a kind line, soup they blow on till it cools, and a thermometer that drops to 98.6 while they hold for a hug.

TL;DR

The best get well soon messages are short, specific and don't ask for a reply. Below are 62 original lines sorted by situation — a cold or viral fever, the funny version for a friend who hates sympathy, after surgery or a hospital stay, for a parent, for a colleague — plus Hinglish lines for WhatsApp and a few in Devanagari. Tap any line to copy it, then make the one edit at the bottom: name the thing you'll actually do for them.

The first rule: don't make them reply

A sick person's phone is a to-do list. "How are you feeling now?" from the office group, "Kuch khaya?" from three relatives, "Dolo li?" from a cousin who is not a doctor, and a "get well soon 🙏" that technically needs a thumbs-up. Each message is kind. Together, they're a part-time job.

So the lines on this page are written to be received, not answered. Most of them close the loop themselves — "don't reply", "I'll check in tomorrow", "I've already told the team". That one move is what separates a message that helps from one that adds to the pile.

Three other things worth knowing before you copy anything:

  • Match the illness. A viral fever in Delhi's dengue season and a knee replacement in Pune are different messages. The sections below are split for exactly that reason.
  • Offer one specific thing. "Let me know if you need anything" puts the work back on them. "I'm dropping khichdi at 8, leave the door unlocked" doesn't.
  • Follow up on day four. Everyone texts on day one. Almost nobody texts when the antibiotics are halfway through and the boredom has set in.

Short and light — a cold, a fever, a bad week (12)

Funny get well soon messages (for the friend who hates sympathy) (10)

Some people would rather be roasted than pitied. For a minor illness and a friend who jokes about themselves, these land better than anything soft.

After surgery or a hospital stay (9)

Slower, steadier, no jokes unless they start them. Recovery from a procedure isn't a fever — it takes weeks, and the people around them get tired of asking long before they get better.

For a parent or older relative (8)

Parents rarely admit they're unwell, and they hate being fussed over by their own children. Keep it warm and a little bossy.

For a colleague or boss (7)

Workplace get-well messages have one job beyond kindness: tell them their work is handled.

Hinglish — quick lines for WhatsApp (10)

Romanized Hindi reads best on WhatsApp — it fits the chat bubble, survives every phone's font, and sounds like you actually talk.

देवनागरी — for a longer message or a card (6)

For a grandparent, a parent's friend, or anyone who reads Hindi more comfortably than English. Each line copies with its romanized version attached. The full Hindi bank, with lines for elders and for a hospital stay, is in get well soon wishes in Hindi.

What NOT to send

  • "What happened exactly?" They've explained it nine times. If they want to tell you, they will.
  • A cure. Not the kadha recipe, not the YouTube doctor, not the cousin's homeopath — unless they asked.
  • Someone else's horror story. "My uncle had the same thing and…" ends badly whatever comes next.
  • "Let me know if you need anything." It sounds generous and it puts all the work on the sick person. Offer one concrete thing instead.
  • A guilt-trip follow-up. "Seen and no reply? 😅" Never. Silence from a sick person is the message working.

If the illness is long or serious and it's starting to wear on them emotionally, the lines here will feel too small. What to text a friend going through a hard time is written for the longer stretch.

When a text isn't enough

A message gets read once and buried under the family group's forwards. When the person matters — a best friend in bed for a week with viral fever, a partner after a small surgery, a sibling stuck in a hostel room in Kota with nobody bringing soup — a page gives them something to do from bed.

Lovely's Get Well Soon template is a tiny clinic made for one patient. It opens on a prescription pad from "Dr. Arjun's clinic of feeling better" — your name goes on the door — with their name, a diagnosis like "sick + extra grumpy", an Rx list ("rest. like, actual rest." / "me, unlimited refills") and a follow-up date — they tap to stamp it APPROVED. Next is a blister pack of up to six pills; each one pops out a dose you've written, like "one nap you don't feel guilty about". Then a bowl of soup they hold a button to blow on until the heat bar drops from lava to just right, and a thermometer that falls from 102.4 to 98.6 only while they hold for a hug. The last screen discharges them with your photo on a band-aid and your doctor's orders. It's ₹59 one-time, every line is editable, and it opens from a WhatsApp link with nothing to install.

"People open a get-well page twice — once when it arrives, and again on the boring day four when nobody is texting anymore," says Lovely's founder. "That second open is the one the page is really for."

If you'd rather send something without the page, get well soon gifts you can send online compares the honest options — food delivery, a book, a care package — on what actually arrives and when.

Make it yours: the one edit

Add the one thing you'll do. Every line above becomes twice as useful with a concrete offer stuck on the end.

  • "Get well soon" → "Get well soon — I'm picking up your medicines from Apollo at 6."
  • "Rest, don't reply" → "Rest, don't reply. I've told Priya you're off the project till Monday."
  • "Thinking of you" → "Thinking of you. Saturday's match is on my laptop whenever you want company."

It takes ten seconds, and it turns a wish into help. Then — and this is the part people forget — set a reminder for day four and send a second, even shorter line. "Still alive? No reply needed." Nobody forgets who checked in when everyone else had stopped.

Once they're better and thanking everyone, the conversation turns around — thank you messages for the friend who was there is written for exactly that moment.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good short get well soon message?

One that wishes them better without asking for an update. "Rest. Don't reply. I'll check in tomorrow." works because it removes the job of answering. Sick people get twenty "how are you feeling now?" messages a day, and every one of them is a small chore.

What do you write to someone after surgery?

Keep it practical and patient: acknowledge that recovery is slow, offer one specific thing like food, a ride or a hospital-shift swap, and tell them there is no hurry to reply. Avoid medical opinions and avoid stories about someone else's surgery that went badly.

Is it okay to send a funny get well soon message?

Yes, if it is a cold, a fever or a minor injury and the person has a sense of humour about themselves. For a serious diagnosis, a long hospital stay or a frightened family, lead with something sincere and save the jokes for once they are joking first.

How do I wish a colleague or boss get well soon?

Short, warm and work-free: "Wishing you a quick recovery — everything here is covered, please don't check email." The line about work being handled is the most useful part, because that is usually what a sick colleague is quietly worrying about.

What can I send instead of a plain get well soon text?

A page they can open from bed. Lovely's Get Well Soon template is a tiny clinic: a prescription you stamp, a blister pack of pills that each pop out a kind line, soup they blow on to cool, and a thermometer that drops as they hold for a hug. It's ₹59 one-time and opens from a WhatsApp link.
