TL;DR

Sixty engagement captions for Instagram, sorted by the photo you're posting: the ring close-up, the proposal moment, the roka or sagai with both families, the couple portrait, and the funny candid. Then Hinglish lines for reach and Devanagari for the family-ceremony posts elders will forward. Every caption is short enough to sit above Instagram's "more" fold, and every one copies with a tap. If you're writing to an engaged couple instead, engagement wishes for a friend is the other side of this page.

The photo already said it

Every engagement post has the same job done before you type a word: the ring, the two of you, the flowers, the families. Everyone scrolling knows what happened. A caption that says "We're engaged!! 💍💍" is repeating the photo.

So the rule here is add the one thing the photo can't show:

  • The story — how long it took, who cried, what went wrong.
  • The joke — the shopping trip, the guest list, the relatives.
  • The fact — the date, the city, the number of years it took him to ask.

Instagram shows roughly two lines before it folds the rest under "more". Every caption below fits.

Ring close-ups (10)

People come to look, not to read. Keep it light.

The proposal moment (8)

For the photo from the actual moment — on one knee, on a terrace in Udaipur, in the living room at home.

Roka and sagai, with both families (8)

These posts get shared by parents, aunts and cousins. Warm, inclusive, a little formal is fine.

The couple portrait (10)

For the pre-shoot photo, the post-ceremony portrait, the golden-hour one your photographer is very proud of.

Funny engagement captions (8)

For the candid, the outtake, the photo where someone is blinking.

Hinglish captions (8)

Romanized Hinglish is what most of your followers actually read fastest — and it's perfect for the reel with the dhol.

देवनागरी — for the sagai and roka post (8)

Devanagari reads beautifully on a family-ceremony post, and it's the version elders forward. Each line copies with its romanized form attached.

When a caption isn't the whole announcement

A post goes to everyone who follows you — the college batch, the gym, the cousin's colleague. The people who actually raised you, and the friends who saw it coming, deserve something more personal than a tile on their feed.

That's what the We're Engaged template is for. It opens with "psst. something happened…" above a velvet ring box. They press and hold until the lid lifts and the ring rises — "she said yes". Then they drag the ring onto her ring finger ("it fits. obviously."). Next comes your story in arched frames, chapter by chapter — the hello, the first date, the question, the yes — two to five chapters, with your photos. It ends on your two names, "are engaged", and the date, with a "send your blessings" button that showers petals. ₹59 once, and you can send the same link to the family WhatsApp group and your three closest friends.

"Engagement pages tend to travel up the family tree," says Lovely's founder. "The couple sends it to their parents, and by evening a great-aunt in Kanpur has forwarded it to forty people. That's the point — it's an announcement that survives being forwarded."

For a longer write-up of what goes on an engagement page, the engagement announcement online page guide walks through all seven sections. And when relatives start sending you their blessings in Hindi, engagement wishes in Hindi has lines to send back.

Make it yours: add the one fact

Take any caption and add one real fact — a date, a place, a number:

  • "Said yes" → "Said yes on the Marine Drive wall, 9:40 PM"
  • "It took me ten seconds" → "It took me ten seconds. It took him four years."
  • "Rishta pakka" → "Rishta pakka, Lucknow se Pune tak"

What NOT to do: don't post before both families have told the grandparents — someone always finds out from Instagram. Don't tag the ring brand in the caption unless you're being paid. And don't caption a joint post with a joke only one of you finds funny; agree on it first.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good caption for an engagement post?

A short line that adds one idea the photo can't show — "It took me ten seconds. He says it felt like ten years." Engagement photos already say "we're engaged", so the best captions add the story, the joke or the date rather than repeating the news.

What caption should I use for a ring photo?

Keep it to a few words and let the ring do the talking: "Said yes. Would say it again." or "New accessory, forever edition." Ring close-ups get the most comments when the caption is light, because people are coming to look, not to read.

What caption works for a roka or sagai photo with family?

Something that includes both families rather than only the couple — "Two families, one very long guest list." Family ceremony photos are often shared by parents and relatives too, so a warm, slightly formal line or a Hinglish one usually works better than an inside joke.

Should I write my engagement caption in Hindi or English?

Match the audience of the post. English or Hinglish suits a couple post for friends; Devanagari looks beautiful on a sagai or roka photo that elders will see and share. This page has sections for all three, and the Devanagari lines copy with a romanized version.

How else can we announce our engagement online?

Alongside the post, send close family and friends a page. Lovely's We're Engaged template opens on a velvet box they press and hold until the ring rises, tells your story chapter by chapter, and ends on your names and date with a shower of petals when they send blessings. ₹59 one-time.
