TL;DR
59 new year messages for your girlfriend or boyfriend: lines for her, lines for him, short midnight texts, long-distance, first new year together, Hinglish and Hindi (Devanagari) sections, and four longer paragraphs. New Year's Eve 2026 is Thursday, December 31 — send the short one at 11:58 and the long one on the morning of January 1, 2027. Every line copies with a tap; the one-edit trick at the bottom makes it yours.
The new year message is a year-in-review
Birthday and anniversary messages are about the person. A new year message is different: it's the one time you get to look back at the whole year you spent together and say, out loud, what it was. That's why the best ones read like a tiny year-in-review — one moment from 2026, one hope for 2027.
A few things that help:
- Look back first, then forward. "Thank you for March" before "let's go to Manali."
- Name a plan, not a wish. "One trip, a real one" is more romantic than "may all your dreams come true."
- Midnight is crowded. Your text arrives alongside forty "HNY"s. Short and specific beats long and generic at 12:00.
If you're still in December, the Christmas wishes for girlfriend and boyfriend come first. For lines you can tick off together, see new year resolutions for couples.

When a message isn't enough
A midnight text is the minimum. If you want them to actually count down with you — especially from another city — the Happy New Year template was written couple-first, down to the sign-off "your plus one for every year".
It opens on a flip-board: "2026 is leaving." They start the countdown, the board flips from 10, and they have to tap exactly at zero — the page tells them if they were perfect ("like us"), early ("so eager. cute.") or late ("as always. i waited."). Then a night sky where every tap launches a firework carrying one wish you wrote: more late-night drives, fewer "k." texts, one trip with passports. Then a little printer prints your year as a receipt from "us & co." — "maggi at 2am ×47", "'last episode, promise' ×112", "fights about nothing ×9", "making up (worth it) ×9" — with your photo at the bottom and "no returns. no exchanges. keeping you." They tear it off. Then "2027, together": a resolutions list they tick and sign. The finale is their name, two photos, and fireworks on every tap.
You choose three to six wishes, three to seven receipt items and three to six resolutions — and every number on the receipt is yours to change. ₹79 one-time, about ten minutes, sent as a private link. The countdown starts when they tap, so it works at midnight or at noon on January 1.
"Couples rewrite the receipt more carefully than any other part — it's where all the inside jokes go," says Lovely's founder.
Make it yours: the one edit
Swap one generic noun for one only the two of you know.
- "a trip" → "Spiti, the one we keep postponing"
- "every Sunday" → "every Sunday at the momo place near your PG"
- "this year" → "this year — the year of the Bandra flat"
- "your favourite song" → "Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas, which you sing wrong"
What NOT to do:
- Don't send a long paragraph at midnight. Short at 12, long in the morning.
- Don't make it about your resolutions. It's their message.
- Don't mention exes, "this time last year", or anything you'd have to explain.
- Don't send the same line you posted as a caption. They'll see both.
Frequently asked questions
What is a romantic new year message for my girlfriend?
One that looks back at your year before it looks forward — "I spent 2026 learning everything about you. I'd like to spend 2027 using it." Name one moment from the year you had together and one plan for the next, and it stops sounding like a forward.
What should I text my boyfriend at midnight on New Year's?
Something short he can read in the noise — "First message of 2027 goes to the person I'd have kissed at 12:00 if you were here." Send it at 11:58 so it arrives on time; networks are slow at midnight. Save the long paragraph for the morning.
What do I send a long-distance partner for New Year?
A message that makes the distance part of the plan. "Two time zones, two midnights, one of us gets to say Happy New Year twice." Then set up something together — a video call countdown, or a page you both open at your own midnight.
What should I write for our first New Year together?
Mark it as the first and make one promise for the year. "Our first new year. I'd like a trip, a photo we print, and at least one fight we laugh about later." First-new-year messages work best when they sound like a plan, not a poem.
What can I give my partner for New Year besides a message?
A page that counts down with them. Lovely's Happy New Year template has a flip-board countdown they tap at zero, fireworks that each carry a wish, your year printed as a receipt they tear off, and a list of 2027 resolutions you both sign — ₹79 one-time.
