First, a note on honesty
Search "Krishna quotes" and you'll find thousands of lines that begin "Krishna said…". Most of them he didn't — at least not in any text. The famous "Gita Saar" poster ("jo hua, achha hua; jo ho raha hai, achha ho raha hai…") is a modern summary, not a verse. That doesn't make those lines worthless, but it does make them easy to get caught out on, especially by the grandparent who knows the Gita by heart.
So this page does it differently. The first section has only real Gita verses, each with its chapter and verse number. Everything after that is clearly ours — written in Krishna's spirit, not put in his mouth.
From the Bhagavad Gita — with meaning (8)
The Gita is Krishna's counsel to Arjun on the battlefield of Kurukshetra, part of the Mahabharata. The Sanskrit copies on the second line.
The Hindi meanings are plain renderings, not word-for-word translations — every translator renders these slightly differently. For a card to an elder, send the Sanskrit with the verse number; they'll recognise it.
Life lessons — inspired by the Gita (12)
These are original lines in the Gita's spirit — not quotations. Each copies with its romanized version.
Radha-Krishna love quotes (10)
Radha and Krishna's love is the Indian imagination's favourite picture of love that isn't about owning. These original lines are written for a partner, a crush or a status. Devanagari copies with the romanized version.
For more lines in this register, true love shayari in Hindi has a whole bank of them.
Bal Krishna — makhan chor lines (8)
For the little Kanhas, the jhula photos and the grandparents who can't stop forwarding them.
The fifth line retells a story from the Bhagavata Purana: when Yashoda made little Krishna open his mouth to check if he'd eaten mud, she saw the whole universe inside it.
Hinglish one-liners for WhatsApp status (12)
Romanized lines read best on WhatsApp status — they fit the box and render on every phone.
Short Krishna quotes in English (10)
For Instagram captions and friends who'd rather read English. Original lines.
What NOT to do
- Don't attribute a viral line to the Gita without a verse number. If you can't find the chapter and verse, write "inspired by Krishna", not "Krishna said".
- Don't paraphrase a shloka and keep the Sanskrit beside it as if it's a translation. Our Hindi meanings above are labelled as plain renderings for a reason.
- Don't use Radha-Krishna lines to guilt someone ("Radha waited, why can't you?"). That's not what the story is about.
- Don't mix up Radha and Rukmini in a love quote to a devout relative.
- Don't strip the Sanskrit of its diacritics and then retype it. Copy the lines above as they are; Sanskrit is easy to break.
When a quote needs a flute
A Gita verse in a WhatsApp chat gets a "🙏" and a scroll. On a page, it can be the moment. Lovely's Happy Janmashtami template has a scene built for exactly this: "play the bansuri. press and hold." As they hold, the flute plays and your lines appear one by one — three to five of them. A Gita verse as the last line works beautifully; so does a Radha-Krishna line for a partner. Before that, they turn a golden clock hand to midnight to welcome Kanha ("नंद घर आनंद भयो"); after it, they build a four-layer human pyramid and break the dahi handi. The finale has their name, your line and "जय श्री कृष्ण". ₹49 once, opens from a link.
"People put Gita 2.47 on the flute more than any other line," says Lovely's founder. "Usually for someone waiting on a result — an exam, a job, a report. It's the right verse for that."
The online Janmashtami greeting guide walks through every screen if you'd like help.
Make it yours: pair the verse with the moment
The one edit that turns a quote into a message: add the reason you're sending it.
- "Karmanye vadhikaraste…" → add: "Results aane do. Tumne apna kaam kar diya hai."
- "Sukh bhi jayega, dukh bhi" → add: "Yeh mahina bhi jayega, Didi."
- "Love like Radha — without keeping score." → add: "Happy third anniversary."
A Krishna quote on its own is wisdom. With one line of yours beside it, it becomes advice from someone who loves them.
Frequently asked questions
What is the most famous Krishna quote?
"Karmanye vadhikaraste ma phaleshu kadachana" from the Bhagavad Gita (2.47) — "your right is to your work alone, never to its fruits". It is Krishna's advice to Arjun on the battlefield of Kurukshetra and is probably the most quoted line of Indian philosophy.
Are all the 'Krishna said' quotes online really from the Gita?
No. Many viral lines — including the popular "Gita Saar" poster ("jo hua, achha hua…") — are modern summaries or inspirational sayings, not verses of the Bhagavad Gita. If you want a real quote, use one with a chapter and verse number, like the ones in the first section here.
What is a good Radha Krishna love quote in Hindi?
Short lines about love beyond possession work best, because that is what Radha and Krishna represent: "राधा ने कभी कृष्ण को माँगा नहीं, फिर भी हर कोई उन्हें साथ बुलाता है" (Radha ne kabhi Krishna ko maanga nahi, phir bhi har koi unhe saath bulata hai). The Radha-Krishna section has ten original lines.
Which Krishna quote is good for a WhatsApp status?
A short Hinglish line reads best on status — "Radhe Radhe bolo, sab theek ho jayega" or "Karm karo, phal Kanha pe chhodo". For a more serious status, the first half of Gita 2.47 in Devanagari, "कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन", is instantly recognised.
Can I put Krishna quotes on a Janmashtami page?
Yes. Lovely's Happy Janmashtami template has a bansuri scene where each note reveals one line you write — three to five of them — which suits a Gita verse or a Radha-Krishna line well. It also has a midnight clock and a dahi handi to break. It costs ₹49 one-time.
