TL;DR

Making an anniversary website in 2026 is a form-filling job, not a coding project. The template route: open Lovely's Anniversary template, set the embossed initials on the leather cover, write the typewriter letter, enter the date you started so the live counter can run from it, stamp the postmark with the day you met, upload up to eight polaroids with handwritten captions, write the promises page and the closing dedication, pay ₹29 by UPI, send the private link. About 12 to 15 minutes end to end. The DIY-code route still exists and this guide costs it out honestly. If what you want is an undated page about the two of you rather than one anchored to a date, you want the couple website walkthrough instead.

Decide which page you are actually building

Two very different pages get called "anniversary website", and picking the wrong one wastes the twelve minutes.

  • The dated page. Built around one date. A counter running live from it, a postmark carrying it, and a record of the year that just closed. This is what most people mean, and it is what the Anniversary template is shaped for.
  • The undated couple page. About the two of you as a team, with no calendar anchor. Scoreboards, running jokes, an ongoing story. That is a different build and it is covered end to end in how to make a couple website.

If you find yourself wanting both, make the dated one this year. The undated page has no deadline; the anniversary does.

The seven pages, and what goes on each

The Anniversary template is a vintage memory book, and it is fixed in shape — which is why it takes minutes rather than a weekend.

  1. The leather cover. Embossed initials. Two letters, and they are the first thing your partner sees, so use whatever you actually call each other rather than legal initials.
  2. The typewriter letter. Rendered as if typed. This is the slowest page and the one worth the time. Four short paragraphs beat one long one.
  3. The live counter. Set your start date once; the counter ticks every second the page is open. Open the link three years later and the number is right.
  4. The postmark. Stamped with the day you met — which is often a different date from the one the counter runs on, and the template lets both exist.
  5. The polaroid wall. Up to eight photos, each with its own handwritten-style caption. JPG, PNG, GIF and WebP all work, up to 5 MB each.
  6. The promises page. Forward-looking, not nostalgic. This is the page that keeps the memory book from being an obituary for the year.
  7. The dedication. A short closing, then a petal shower. Stop before it becomes an essay.

The build, step by step

  1. Open the template. Go to Lovely's Anniversary page and preview it once on a phone, because a phone is where it will be read.
  2. Get the two dates straight. The start date for the counter and the day you met for the postmark. Check them before you start — a wrong date on an anniversary page is the one mistake nobody forgives quietly.
  3. Upload the eight photos first. Doing photos before words means you are never staring at a blank letter with nothing to react to. Caption each as you go.
  4. Write the letter. Every step has a live preview, so you can see the typewriter rendering as you type. Drafts persist in your dashboard, so you can stop and come back.
  5. Pay ₹29. One-time, through Razorpay — on a phone that is a UPI scan. No subscription attaches, hosting is included, and a custom domain is an optional ₹100 add-on if you want the link to read like a name instead of a string.
  6. Lock it if you want to. The editor's settings have a global password toggle with a custom unlock message. Useful if the page is going into a family WhatsApp group.
  7. Send the link. It opens on any phone, tablet or laptop. No account on their side, no install, nothing to pay.

The whole thing runs about 12 minutes with the photos ready, 15 if you write the letter properly. The letter is where the time goes and where the page is won.

The code route, honestly

If you write code, hand-building an anniversary page is a genuinely nice weekend project, and "I built this from scratch" carries its own romance. The stack is not hard: one HTML page, CSS you will fight for three hours, free hosting on GitHub Pages, and optionally a domain at ₹700 to ₹900 a year.

Here is the comparison without the sales gloss:

| | Code it yourself | Anniversary template | |---|---|---| | Time | A weekend, minimum | ~12 minutes | | Skills needed | HTML, CSS, some JS, deployment | Typing | | Money | ₹0–900 (domain optional) | ₹29 one-time | | Live seconds counter | You are writing a timer and a timezone bug | Built in | | Photo handling | Resizing, lazy loading, your problem | Upload and caption | | Mobile testing | Every screen size, yours to check | Already handled | | Password lock | An afternoon and a bad idea about auth | A toggle | | Maintenance | Yours forever | None | | Bragging rights | Maximum | "I made this before the dinner reservation" |

The decision rule is simple: if the process of building is the gift, code it. If the page is the gift, use the template. The full money math for the DIY stack, including the costs that only show up in month two, is laid out in what a couple website costs in 2026.

What subscription builders cost you

Wix, Squarespace and the wedding-site platforms all technically do this. The mismatch is the billing model: they charge ₹500 to ₹2,000 a month for infrastructure built to serve a business that publishes weekly. An anniversary page is read hard for two days and then revisited once a year. You are renting a shop to hang one photograph.

The other mismatch is the starting point. A general builder hands you a blank canvas and a design decision every thirty seconds. A template hands you seven pages that already look right and asks you only for the parts nobody else can supply.

What to write, page by page

Tools aside, the words decide it. Short briefs:

  • Cover initials: the names you use in the house, not on the marriage certificate.
  • The letter: open with one specific memory from this year, not from the wedding. Middle: one thing that was hard and how it went. Close warm and short.
  • Polaroid captions: the caption should say something the photo does not. "Kanpur, 4 AM, you were furious about the auto" beats "us in Kanpur".
  • Promises: three, concrete, cheap. A promise you can keep by Sunday is worth four you cannot.
  • Dedication: two sentences. The petal shower does the rest.

Write it the way you talk. Hinglish included — the page is for an audience of one, and that audience knows how you actually sound. If the words are the hard part rather than the build, the line banks are the shelf to raid: first anniversary wishes for year one, 10th anniversary wishes for the decade, and 25th anniversary wishes in Hindi when the page is for parents.

Mistakes that cost more than twelve minutes

  • Getting the date wrong. Check it twice. The counter makes an error permanent and visible.
  • Building it on laptop-brain. It will be read on a six-inch screen, probably in bed. Preview on your phone before you send.
  • Writing the year as a highlight reel. Every good anniversary letter admits one hard thing. Pages that only celebrate read like brochures.
  • Announcing it in advance. "I made you something" converts a surprise into a deadline with an audience.
  • Waiting for a better photo. The eight you have are the eight. Sent beats perfect.

Or skip the tutorial — the template is the tutorial

Every step above is already built into the editor. Open the Anniversary template, and it walks you from the embossed initials to the private link in one sitting: ₹29, about twelve minutes, opens on any phone in India. If your anniversary is tomorrow, you have more time than you need.

"People assume the hard part is the software," says Ganesh, Lovely's founder. "It never is. The hard part is deciding which eight photos out of four hundred are the year. The template exists so that decision is the only one you have to make."

If the milestone in front of you is a monthsary rather than a wedding anniversary, the same no-code build exists at a different shape and price — that one is in the monthsary page walkthrough. And if you would rather send a whole story than a dated keepsake, the Our Journey template lays your timeline out on one long scroll for ₹49.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make an anniversary website without coding?

Open Lovely's Anniversary template, fill in the seven pages — cover initials, typewriter letter, start date for the live counter, the postmark day, up to eight polaroids with captions, promises and a dedication — pay ₹29, and send the private link. It takes about 12 to 15 minutes and needs no HTML, no hosting and no domain.

What does an anniversary website cost in India?

₹29 one-time on Lovely's Anniversary template, paid by UPI through Razorpay. Hosting is included and the link never expires. Building it yourself costs ₹0 to ₹900 depending on whether you buy a domain, plus a weekend. Subscription website builders run ₹500 to ₹2,000 a month for a page you will look at once a year.

How is an anniversary website different from a couple website?

A couple website is undated — it is about the two of you as a team, and it reads the same in March or in October. An anniversary website is anchored to one date: a live counter running from it, a postmark stamped with it, and a record of the year that just ended. Same builder, different centre of gravity.

Does the days-together counter really update?

Yes. You set the start date once and the counter ticks every second the page is open. If your partner opens the same link a year later, the number is current — which is the single feature that makes the page worth keeping rather than screenshotting.

Can I stop other people from opening the link?

Yes. Lovely has a password lock in the editor's settings — turn it on, set a password and a custom unlock message, and the memory book only opens after the password is typed. Without it the URL is still private and unguessable, just not gated.
