TL;DR
54 original Ganpati wishes in Marathi, every one in Devanagari with a romanized version underneath so it works on any phone and for any reader. Sorted by moment: Bappa's aagman (arrival), family and gharguti Ganpati, friends and the mandal, short status lines, and visarjan — "pudhchya varshi lavkar ya". Tap to copy; both scripts copy together. For Hindi and English lines, the main Ganesh Chaturthi wishes bank has 64 more.
Three small things Marathi readers notice
Ganeshotsav belongs to all of India now, but it has a home address — Maharashtra, where Lokmanya Tilak turned the household puja into a public festival in Pune in 1893, and where Lalbaugcha Raja in Mumbai and Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati in Pune still pull lakhs of people every year. If you're writing to someone from there, three details make the difference between "copied" and "cared":
- गणपती, not गणपति. Marathi usually ends Ganpati with a long ee. Hindi uses the short one.
- शुभेच्छा, not शुभकामनाएँ. "Hardik shubhechha" is the Marathi wish. "Hardik shubhkamnayein" is Hindi — fine for Hindi speakers, slightly off in a Marathi line.
- "Bappa" is family. It's an affectionate word for father. Marathi wishes talk to Ganpati like a relative who's visiting, not a distant deity — "Bappa, yanda saglyanna aarogya de" (Bappa, give everyone good health this year) is how people really pray.
Aagman — welcoming Bappa (12)
For the morning of Chaturthi, when the idol comes home and the sthapana photo goes up.
"Sukhkarta Dukhharta" is the opening of the much-loved Marathi aarti traditionally attributed to Samarth Ramdas — the line every Maharashtrian household sings. Using two words of it in a wish is a nod, not a quotation.
For family and gharguti Ganpati (10)
Whether your family keeps Bappa for one and a half days or all ten, these are for the people around the home mandir.
The seventh line is the one to send your in-laws on your first Ganpati with them. It's polite enough for Sasubai and sincere enough that she'll forward it to her sister.
For friends, the mandal and the dhol-tasha pathak (10)
Friends don't need formal Marathi. These mix Marathi with the English everyone in Pune and Thane actually speaks.
Short status lines (romanized Marathi) (12)
Romanized lines read best on WhatsApp status — they fit the box, survive the crop, and nobody has to switch keyboards to reply. Put one over the sthapana photo.
Visarjan — pudhchya varshi lavkar ya (10)
The hardest day of the festival, and the one almost nobody writes for. Send these on Anant Chaturdashi, or on your family's own visarjan day.
"Ganpati gele gavala, chain padena amhala" is an old visarjan refrain sung in processions — it isn't ours, and it's included because no Marathi visarjan list is honest without it.
What NOT to do
- Don't machine-translate a Hindi wish. "Shubhkamnayein" inside a Marathi sentence is the giveaway. Use shubhechha.
- Don't send only the Devanagari to a friend abroad whose phone or reading is shaky — send both scripts. Every line here copies with both.
- Don't over-formalise with friends. "Manahpurvak shubhechha" to your college gang reads like a bank SMS. Use the mandal section.
- Don't treat visarjan as a joke with someone who has lost a family member this year. The first visarjan after a death is often the hardest day of the year for them.
- Don't argue about whose mandal is bigger in the family group. It always ends badly.
When a Marathi line wants a whole page
For the cousin in New Jersey who'll do the aarti on a video call, or the friend in Nagpur doing her first Ganpati in a new home, a line can feel small. Lovely's Happy Ganesh Chaturthi template gives your Marathi room to breathe. They pull a gold rope to open the pandal curtain under a marigold toran; then they tap modaks to offer them while Mooshak waits by the thali, and each modak reveals one of your wishes — write all of them in Marathi if you like. They circle the aarti thali around Bappa three times (there's a "help me do it" button for relatives who don't like dragging). Then they hold a button for the visarjan, and the scene already reads "pudhchya varshi lavkar ya!" before their name appears at the end with "गणपती बाप्पा मोरया". ₹59 once; every word is yours to change.
"We kept 'pudhchya varshi lavkar ya' in the template in Marathi on purpose," says Lovely's founder. "Some phrases don't translate. They just belong."

Make it yours: add one gharguti detail
Every family's Ganpati has one detail nobody else's has — Aaji's twenty-one modaks, the eco-friendly shadu mati idol your brother made, the 5-day visarjan at the Girgaon chowpatty, the makhar (decoration) you rebuild every year. Put that detail into any line above:
- "Bappa aale ghari, aanand aala daari" → "Bappa aale ghari, Aaji che 21 modak tayar."
- "Daha divas kase gele kalalach nahi" → "Paach divas kase gele kalalach nahi" — if your Bappa stays five days, say five.
That one edit is how they know you wrote it for their house.
Frequently asked questions
How do you say Happy Ganesh Chaturthi in Marathi?
The standard phrase is "Ganesh Chaturthichya hardik shubhechha" (गणेश चतुर्थीच्या हार्दिक शुभेच्छा). For the whole festival you can say "Ganeshotsavachya manahpurvak shubhechha". Both are warm and correct for elders, friends and office groups alike.
What does pudhchya varshi lavkar ya mean?
It means "come early next year" in Marathi. It is the second half of the visarjan chant — "Ganpati Bappa Morya, pudhchya varshi lavkar ya" — called out as the idol is carried to the water, asking Bappa to return sooner next year.
Is it Ganpati or Ganapati in Marathi?
In Marathi it is usually written गणपती (Ganpati), with a long "ee" at the end, while Hindi usually writes गणपति. Marathi also uses शुभेच्छा (shubhechha) for wishes where Hindi uses शुभकामनाएँ. Small details, but Maharashtrian readers notice them.
What should I send to a Maharashtrian friend for Ganpati if I don't speak Marathi?
Send one short Marathi line in Devanagari with the romanized version, then add a sentence in your own language. "Ganpati Bappa Morya! Ganeshotsavachya hardik shubhechha" followed by a personal line in English or Hindi reads as respectful, not performative.
Can I make a Ganpati page in Marathi?
Yes. Every line on Lovely's Happy Ganesh Chaturthi template is editable, so you can write the modak wishes, the visarjan line and the finale in Marathi. The template already uses "pudhchya varshi lavkar ya!" on its visarjan scene. It costs ₹59 one-time.
