TL;DR

Seventy anniversary captions in Hindi and Hinglish, written to be tapped and pasted straight into Instagram. Short Devanagari lines that fit above the "more" cut, two-line shayari-style captions for carousels, Hinglish one-liners for the couples who'd find anything filmy embarrassing, roast captions, and milestone-year versions for the fifth, tenth and twenty-fifth. All original, written from both directions — for the wife posting about her husband and the husband posting about his wife. The last section shows the one edit that makes any of them yours.

Why the Hindi caption is the one that works

Here's an ordinary observation with a lot behind it: the anniversary post that gets the most replies from your own family is almost never the English one.

An English caption is addressed to the internet. A Hindi or Hinglish caption is addressed to the people who actually know the two of you — your bua, your college group, the neighbour in Indore who has been asking about the shaadi photos for six years. That audience responds to the language they think in.

The practical mechanics matter too. Instagram cuts a caption at around 125 characters before the "more" link, and Devanagari renders shorter per character than Latin script, so a Hindi line often fits where the English translation wouldn't. On a phone, that's the difference between a caption being read and a caption being tapped open.

One more thing worth naming: romanized Hinglish travels further than Devanagari does. Most Indian phones are set up for the Latin keyboard, so a Hinglish caption gets retyped, adapted and reused by everyone who liked it. Devanagari gets screenshotted. Both are wins; they're just different wins. Post the Devanagari and drop the Hinglish in the first comment — you get both.

Short captions in Hindi — Devanagari (1–14)

Under twelve words. These sit fully above the cut.

Two-line captions for a photo dump (15–26)

Carousels earn longer captions. These are shayari-shaped, written in pairs.

Hinglish one-liners (27–44)

Romanized, for the couple that finds Devanagari too formal — and for anyone who wants the caption to be retyped by twelve people.

When she's posting about him (45–50)

When he's posting about her (51–56)

Roast captions, for the couples who joke (57–64)

Milestone years (65–70)

Make it yours: swap one word

Every caption above has one general noun in it. Replace it with the specific thing and the caption stops sounding borrowed:

  • "चाय" → the actual thing you argue about at 7 AM
  • "इतने साल" → the real number, always. Numbers stop the scroll.
  • "यह घर" → "यह किराए का फ़्लैट" if that's the truth — the unglamorous version is more affecting
  • "हमारी कहानी" → the city you met in. "Nagpur" does more work than "kahani" ever will.

Two format rules that cost nothing: put the emotional line first so it survives the 125-character cut, and move the tags, the gratitude and the long version below the fold. And if you're posting a carousel, name a slide in the caption — "slide 4 वाले दिन गीज़र ख़राब था" gets more replies than any generic love line, because it invites people who were there.

"The caption people remember is never the most poetic one," says Ganesh, Lovely's founder. "It's the one with a real detail in it. Somebody's aunt reads 'Nagpur, 2014' and immediately comments. Nobody has ever commented on 'forever and always'."

What NOT to caption

  • Don't post a caption your partner hasn't seen. Especially the roast ones. Public teasing is only funny when it's already a private joke.
  • Don't paste a famous shayari and leave it unattributed. If the line is Gulzar's, say so — everyone's phone recognises it anyway, and the borrowed line lands as a borrowed line.
  • Don't write a caption addressed to them if they aren't on Instagram. Send them the words directly and let the post be for everyone else.
  • Don't announce a milestone number you'd both dispute. More couples than you'd expect disagree about which date counts. Check first.
  • Don't stack five hashtags into the emotional line. Below the fold, always.

Jab caption chhota pad jaye

A caption is a hundred and twenty-five characters. A marriage is longer than that.

When there's a whole year you actually want to say something about, the caption goes on Instagram and the real version goes somewhere private. The Anniversary template is ₹29 and about fifteen minutes: a leather-look book cover with your initials, a typewritten letter, a live counter postmarked with your wedding date, up to eight polaroids with handwritten captions, a ticket-stub timeline and a wax-seal vow page. It arrives as a private link on WhatsApp — no app for them to install, no account, nothing for them to pay.

For a milestone year, Our Journey at ₹49 is the scrolling-timeline version, with up to fifteen dated entries. Either one costs less than the coffee you'd photograph for the post.

If the page is for your wife specifically, an anniversary website for your wife is the twelve-minute walkthrough — which template to pick, what goes on the page, what to leave off, and the honest cost table.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good anniversary caption in Hindi for Instagram?

Short beats long on Instagram — one Devanagari line under about twelve words sits fully above the "more" cut and reads cleanly on a phone. Something like "सालगिरह मुबारक — तुम्हारे साथ हर साल पहला साल लगता है" works because it's specific in feeling and short in form. Longer shayari-style captions are better under carousel posts than single photos.

Should I write the anniversary caption in Devanagari or in Hinglish?

Devanagari looks better and reads more sincerely; romanized Hinglish gets typed and shared more, because most Indian phones are set up for the Latin keyboard. A common approach is Devanagari for the caption itself and Hinglish for the first comment, so both audiences get their version.

How long should an Instagram anniversary caption be?

Instagram truncates captions at roughly 125 characters before the "more" link, so anything you actually want read should fit inside that. Keep the emotional line first and put context, gratitude and tags below the fold where they cost you nothing.

What do you caption a wedding anniversary photo dump?

A carousel earns a longer caption than a single photo, so a two-line shayari-style Hindi caption works well there. Number the years or name the specific photos in the caption body — "slide 4 was the day the geyser broke" does more for engagement than any generic love line.

Is it okay to post an anniversary caption if your partner isn't on Instagram?

Yes, and it's worth sending them the caption privately too. A public post is for everyone else; a message with the same words, sent only to them, is the part they'll actually reread. The post is the announcement, the message is the gift.
